HPV sampling kits are not only crucial for women’s health but also important for men’s health. HPV infection of the male genitalia may lead to a series of diseases, such as penile cancer, anal cancer, and may also cause genital warts.
In the HPV test for men, HPV sampling kits are mainly used to collect cell samples from the urethral orifice. After the male subject exposes the urethral orifice, the sampler takes out the sampling swab, gently inserts it into the urethral orifice, rotates it 1 – 2 times, and then takes it out, and puts the swab into a sampling tube containing cell preservation fluid. This sampling method can obtain samples of possible HPV viruses in the male urethra. After the collected samples are sent to the laboratory, it can be detected whether men are infected with HPV. For example, some studies have found that the HPV infection rate is relatively high among homosexual men. Through regular testing of this population using sampling kits, infections can be detected early, and timely intervention and treatment can be carried out to prevent the further development of diseases.
II. Precautions
When sampling men, first of all, it is necessary to ensure that the subjects can fully relax. Because the male urethral orifice is relatively sensitive, if the subject is in a tense state, it may increase the difficulty of sampling and even lead to sampling failure. The sampler should operate very gently to avoid injury to the urethral orifice.
After sample collection, the sealing of the sampling tube should be ensured. Because the sample volume of the male urethra is relatively small, if the sample is not properly preserved and leaks, effective detection may not be possible. At the same time, during transportation, attention should also be paid to preventing the sample from being affected by vibration and temperature changes. Similar to the transportation requirements of female samples, it is best to keep the sample transported in an environment of 2 – 8 °C to ensure the quality of the sample.
III. Advantages
There are many advantages of using HPV sampling kits for male testing. Firstly, the operation is simple. For samplers who have received professional training, the sampling operation for men can be completed in a relatively short time, reducing the waiting time and discomfort of the subjects. Secondly, the design of the sampling swab is suitable for the physiological structure of the male urethra. Its size and shape can conveniently enter the urethral orifice to collect samples, while not over – stimulating the urethra. Thirdly, it can detect HPV infections in men at an early stage. Men generally pay less attention to their genital health than women do to cervical health. Through this simple sampling method, more men can be prompted to have HPV tests, thereby detecting potential health problems early and protecting men’s reproductive health.
