Antigen rapid test kit detection principle:
Antigen rapid test kits usually use immunochromatography or latex agglutination method to detect antigens.
Immunochromatography:
During the detection process, the sample (such as the secretion collected by nasopharyngeal swab or oropharyngeal swab) is added to the sample well of the detection card. The sample moves forward along the membrane on the detection card under capillary action. If there is a specific antigen in the sample, it will specifically bind to the antibody fixed on the detection membrane. Subsequently, the antibody complex combined with the antigen will continue to move and combine with another antibody marked with a color-developing substance (such as colloidal gold). When the color-developing substance reaches the detection line, a visible line will appear, indicating the presence of the antigen.
Latex agglutination method:
The antigen in the sample specifically binds to the antibody coated on the surface of the latex particles. When the antigen binds to the antibody, it will cause the latex particles to aggregate with each other, forming a visible agglutination phenomenon. By observing the degree of agglutination, it can be judged whether the antigen exists or not.
These detection principles utilize the highly specific interaction between antigens and antibodies, and can quickly provide detection results in a relatively short time, helping people initially judge whether they are infected with relevant pathogens. However, it should be noted that antigen detection may have certain false positive or false negative results, and its accuracy may be affected by a variety of factors.
