Cell culture media
Cell culture media are mainly classified in the following categories:
I. Classification according to components
Natural culture medium: culture medium extracted by using tissues and body fluids of animals, plants or microorganisms, such as serum and plasma.
Synthetic medium: medium formulated from substances with clear chemical composition.
Classification by state
Liquid medium: medium in liquid state.
Solid medium: solid state medium formed by adding coagulant in liquid medium.
C. Classification according to function
Basic medium: medium that can only meet the needs of cell survival and basic growth.
Proliferation medium: medium that can promote cell proliferation.
Differentiation medium: medium used to induce cell differentiation.
The following are some common methods of cell culture medium preservation:
Refrigerated storage: unopened culture medium can generally be stored at 2~8℃, pay attention to seal it well to avoid moisture and pollution.
Keep it away from light: avoid direct sunlight so as not to affect the quality of the culture medium.
Stored according to the expiration date: Pay attention to the expiration date labeled on the package of culture medium and use it within the expiration date.
Use as soon as possible after opening: Use the medium as soon as possible after opening and avoid prolonged exposure to air.
Store properly: Place the culture medium in a dry and clean environment.
