The usage methods and precautions for CHG disinfection swabs are as follows:
Usage Methods
- Clean Your Hands: Before using CHG disinfection swabs, thoroughly clean your hands with soap and water first, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers to disinfect your hands to ensure that your hands are clean and hygienic and avoid bringing bacteria to the disinfected area.
- Take Out the Swabs: Open the packaging of the CHG disinfection swabs. Be careful not to touch the swab heads to prevent contamination of the swabs. Gently take out the swabs and avoid pulling them out too forcefully to prevent damage to the swab heads or leakage of the liquid.
- Wipe for Disinfection: Depending on the area and part that needs to be disinfected, gently wipe the disinfected area with the swab heads to ensure that the swab heads are in full contact with the skin or mucous membranes. For disinfection of small areas, such as injection sites and around wounds, the swab heads can be directly used for wiping. For disinfection of large areas, such as skin preparation before surgery, the swab heads can be repeatedly wiped over the disinfected area to ensure that the entire disinfected area is covered. When wiping, it should be done in a certain direction and order to avoid missing or repeatedly wiping the same area.
- Contact Time: Let the disinfection swabs act on the disinfected area for a certain period of time, usually 2 to 3 minutes, to ensure that CHG can fully play its disinfection role. During the contact time, do not wipe or wash the disinfected area to avoid affecting the disinfection effect.
- Dispose of the Swabs: After use, put the disinfection swabs into the designated medical waste containers and handle them in accordance with the regulations on medical waste disposal to avoid randomly discarding them and causing environmental pollution.
Precautions
- Applicable Population: Generally speaking, CHG disinfection swabs are suitable for most people. However, for patients who are allergic to chlorhexidine gluconate, their use should be prohibited to avoid allergic reactions. Before use, you can ask patients whether they have a history of allergies. If there are doubts, a skin allergy test can be conducted.
- Applicable Parts: CHG disinfection swabs are mainly used for disinfecting the skin and mucous membranes, but contact with sensitive parts such as the eyes, mouth, nasal cavity, and the deep tissues of open wounds should be avoided. If they accidentally come into contact with these parts, rinse immediately with a large amount of clean water.
- Avoid Mixing with Other Substances: During the use of CHG disinfection swabs, avoid using other cleaners or disinfectants containing anionic surfactants at the same time to prevent chemical reactions, which may reduce the disinfection effect or produce harmful substances.
- Use According to Instructions: Use CHG disinfection swabs strictly in accordance with the requirements of the product instructions, including the usage method, dosage, and contact time. Do not overuse or use them for a long time to avoid adverse effects on the skin, such as dry skin and redness.
- Pay Attention to Storage: Unused CHG disinfection swabs should be stored in a cool and dry place, avoiding direct sunlight and a hot and humid environment. If it is found that the swab packaging is damaged or expired, their use should be prohibited.
