MDM (Iscove’s Modified Dulbecco Medium)

MDM (Iscove’s Modified Dulbecco Medium) is Iscove’s modified DMEM medium, which was designed by Guilber and Iscove in 1976 to culture erythrocyte precursor cells and macrophages.IMDM medium adds selenium, HEPES, sodium pyruvate and additional amino acids and vitamins to DMEM medium, making it very nutritious and suitable for rapid proliferation and high-density cell culture. IMDM is a nutrient-rich medium with the addition of selenium, HEPES, sodium pyruvate, and additional amino acids and vitamins to DMEM medium, making it ideal for fast-proliferating, high-density cell cultures.IMDM medium can be used not only for culturing cells with special nutritional requirements (e.g., mouse B-lymphocytes, LPS-stimulated B-cells, myeloid hematopoietic cells, T-lymphocytes, and a variety of hybridoma cells), but also for use as a base solution for a number of unique serum-free media. L-glutamine (Glutamine) is an essential nutrient in cell culture, but it is unstable in solution and degrades spontaneously. L-glutamine-free media can be used to arbitrarily adjust the amount of L-glutamine according to the needs of the study, and the addition of fresh L-glutamine or its substitutes at the time of use is more conducive to the growth of cells.

Penicillin-streptomycin mixture, also commonly known as “double antibiotic”, is the most commonly used antibiotic for preventing microbial contamination in in vitro cultures. Penicillin interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, and is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, while streptomycin binds to the bacterial 30S subunit of the ribosome and inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, and is effective against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, but is particularly effective against Gram-negative bacteria.
